What this site is

Tales From Time is a research and writing project run by one person. It is not a university, a journal, or a peer-reviewed publication. I am not an academic historian or an archaeologist. I read primary sources and published scholarship carefully, I name what each article is built on, and I say where the evidence stops. That is the standard, and it is not the same as institutional review.

Nothing here should be cited as a scholarly source. Cite the sources listed at the foot of the article instead. They are the actual authority, and I name them so that you can.

Accuracy

I work to get things right and I expect to get some things wrong anyway. History is a field where the evidence is incomplete, the specialists disagree, and new excavation changes the picture. Where that is true of a subject, the article says so.

If you find an error, the corrections page explains how to report it and what I do about it. Corrections are made and logged rather than quietly absorbed.

Myth and record

This site publishes articles about myths. A myth being discussed here is never a claim that the events in it happened. Where an article describes what a text says, it is describing the text. Where it describes what the evidence shows, it says so in those words. If a passage ever leaves you unsure which of the two you are reading, that is a fault in my writing and I would like to know about it.

Illustrations

The images on this site are artistic interpretations made to set a narrative mood. They are not photographs of real artefacts, sites, objects or people, they are not reconstructions based on evidence, and nothing in any article rests on one. Do not treat them as documentation of anything.

External links

Articles link to other websites, archives, papers and institutions. I link them because they are useful, not because I control them. I am not responsible for their content, their accuracy, their privacy practices or what they do with your data. When you follow a link away from this site, the policies of the site you land on apply, not mine.

Views expressed in comments belong to the people who wrote them and not to me. I moderate against the comment policy, but a comment appearing on this site is not an endorsement of what it says.
