Comments are open on every article here, and I read all of them.
What I want in the comments
Disagreement, mostly. If you know a source I have missed, or you read a passage differently, or you think I have leaned too hard on one scholar, say so. Several articles on this site are better because a reader pushed back.
Questions are welcome too, including the ones you think are too basic. Somebody else is wondering the same thing.
What I remove
- Abuse, threats and personal attacks, on me or on anyone else in the thread.
- Hatred or contempt directed at a group of people. Religion, caste, nationality and ethnicity come up constantly in this subject. Discussing them is the work. Attacking people over them is not.
- Promotional comments and links posted to sell something.
- Comments that are wholly off topic for the article they sit under.
- Anything that identifies a private individual, or posts someone’s personal information.
- Deliberate misinformation presented as established fact after it has been corrected once.
I remove these without warning and without discussion. It is my name on the site.
What I do not remove
A comment telling me I am wrong, even rudely. A comment arguing for an interpretation I disagree with. A comment pointing out an error I would rather had gone unnoticed. These stay.
Moderation
Comments are held for review before they appear. This is spam management, not censorship, and it means there may be a delay of a day or so before yours is visible. Spam is filtered automatically and deleted after 30 days.
Your data
Leaving a comment stores the name and email you enter, your comment, your IP address and your browser user agent. The email address is not published. This data stays as long as the article does, and you can ask me to delete your comment at any time by emailing sauravsinha@talesfromtime.com. The full detail is in the privacy policy.

This site is written for an adult readership. Please do not leave comments if you are under 18.
