Saurav Sinha writes and edits Tales From Time from New Delhi, India. He is a published author, of the novella In Her Sixteen and the epic fantasy trilogy Arsalan, and works professionally as a senior content writer and editor. Every article on this site is researched, written and edited by him. There is no staff, no freelance pool and no syndicated copy, so anything you disagree with here is his to answer for.
The distance between fiction and history turned out to be shorter than he expected. Writing novels is mostly the study of motive: why a person does the thing that ruins them, and what they tell themselves about it afterwards. The ancient sources are full of exactly that material and are hardly ever read for it. A king abandons a campaign. A scribe pads a total. A city surrenders on terms nobody records. Those are character decisions, and they survive in the evidence if you are willing to sit with it. That is what pulled him first into Indian mythology and Vedic philosophy, which he has written about for years, and then outward into the ancient world more broadly, from Egypt and Rome to the Norse north and the Andes.
The one thing fiction does not transfer is permission. A novelist may invent a motive; a history writer may only report one, or say clearly that it is a guess. Keeping that line visible is most of the work on this site.

Both are fiction and neither has anything to do with the history published here, which is why they are listed rather than described. They appear on this page for one reason: a reader deciding whether to trust what an unfamiliar history site tells them is entitled to know that the person writing it is a named, published writer who puts his own name on long-form work and lives with the reviews.
How He Works
An article usually starts with the primary text in a named translation, so that a reader can go and check the same edition rather than take a paraphrase on faith. From there it moves to modern scholarship, and to museum and institutional publications for anything material, such as objects, sites, dates and excavation findings. Where specialists disagree, the disagreement goes into the article instead of being averaged away into a single confident sentence.
The habit he cares most about is stopping on time. A great deal of ancient history is thin, contradictory or entirely absent, and the honest sentence is often that we do not know. Myth is labelled as myth, inference is labelled as inference, and a legend is never quietly upgraded into a fact because the story reads better that way. The prose is his own throughout.
